**St John Ambulance is looking for a volunteer Branch Executive Committee member. This person would provide support to the management; experience and knowledge or interest in promotions and fundraising would be an asset. Attendance at monthly meeting of two hours or less in the early evening will be required. This is another volunteer opportunity that will be an excellent resume builder and learning experience.

The Fruit Tree Project is looking for volunteers to pick fruit from various types of trees in many different areas of town. This is a great activity to do as a family or as an individual and best detail of all.... you get 1/3 of the fruit you pick, another 1/3 goes to the tree owner and the last 1/3 goes to a local charity. This project is a great way to minimize unwanted wild animals in neighbourhoods while lending a hand to someone in need of a favor. The fruit picking season goes from June - Nov depending on what is ripe and ready to pick. You may decide to pick one tree one time only or you may like to pick many trees during the fruit harvest season.

The Community Resource Centre is looking for some volunteers to do some interior painting on the trim and interior doors at the centre but there is also some painting required outdoors in the garden.

 

Therapeutic Riding is looking to expand their board of directors, the time commitment is not extensive in board work but it is a great opportunity to gain resume and team building skills while assisting in the work of an amazing community resource.

Volunteer Powell River will be attending various community events this summer to promote and encourage volunteerism and agency use of our service. We will be offering face painting to children at many of these events and would like to recruit a few more face painters to give us a hand. Kiwanis Lifeline is looking to find a long term volunteer assistant to do some home visits to lifeline customers to ensure simple equipment is fully functioning and emergency contact information is current. The volunteer has to be willing to undergo a criminal record check, costs will be covered. The time volunteering for this organization is very flexible. A license andvehicle are required.

The Roots of Empathy Committee is looking for individuals with diverse professional backgrounds in teaching, health, early childhood education, social work, counseling, speach theapy and recreation to participate in training then facilitate classes as outlined by the ROE national office. This is a volunteer position however, if funding is available an honorarium will be provided.

The Sea Fair Society is looking to fill a bingo assistant position. Duties include collecting money and bingo cards, volunteering in a non smoking, fun environment. The society offers reference letters for this and other volunteer positions.

The Community Life Program is looking for community members to join them in music. Their music man is going on vacation and they would like to meet some new people with some different sounds while he's away in August. This is a great opportunity to meet people who just love music!

This years festivities will be on July 24, 25 and 26 and the organizers are always looking for helpers of all ages to assist in the many volunteer jobs that need to be filled; everything from parade route patrol and grounds keeping to assisting in event creation and much more....

Powell River Emergency Social Services is looking for volunteers. This society provides short term assistance to the Powell River area residents who find themselves in a situation where they are forced to leave their homes due to fire, flood, earthquakes or other emergencies. The assistance can include food, lodging, clothing, emotional support and more. Meetings are monthly excluding december and training will be provided. Reference letters will be provided detailing your volunteer experience.

The Sunshine Coast Lifetime Network is a society that provides social network development to people who are lonely, elderly, vulnerable or disabled. They are looking to fill a volunteer secretary position with the possibility of further involvement if the work of the society engages you.

PRACL is looking for a volunteers for their day program at Community Living Place. This is primarily a 1:1 support for a woman who likes to be involved in dancing, stretching, music and socializing with her peers. Tuesday and/or Friday 9:00 - 11.30am approx.

The Texada AeroSpace Camp will be needing several volunteers for the 3 days 9th, 10th and 11th of July 2009. Sponsored by Texada Arts, Culture & Tourism Society, the camp will introduce youth ages 10 to 18 to aviation and space science technologies. Activities at the camp will include basic aerospace science demonstrations, experiments and presentations from HR Macmillan Space Centre, Canadian Space Agency and Fraser Blues precision formation flying team.

• Aviation Instructors will present prepared curriculum and oversee events.
• Aviations assistants will help with aircraft parking/camping, flight landing schedules, crowd control and aircraft radio control.
• Food coordinators will prepare and serve lunch and afternoon snacks.
• Facility Monitors will aid with parking, classroom directions, front line communication and light housekeeping.

Orientations for all volunteers will be provided prior to the event.

St John Ambulance is looking for volunteers who would serve as Directors on the Board. All executive positions (president, vice president, secretary and treasurer) are filled but new volunteers to round out the Board would be very welcome. This is a wonderful opportunity for volunteers to learn how Boards work before taking on executive responsibility.

Special Olympics, an organization that provides sports for people with mental disabilities are starting programs again at the end of September. They need volunteer scorekeepers for bowling on Monday evenings from 6:30 to 8pm and for the youth bowling program on Tuesday afternoons from 4 to 5 pm.

They also need an assistant swim coach. Swimming is held Tuesdays from 6 to 7pm and Fridays from 4 to 5pm. The swim program includes both youth and adults.

Special Olympics is looking for a Floor Hockey Coach and an Assistant Softball Coach. Both teams practice on Friday nights from 6:30 to 8:00pm. The athletes in both of these programs are adults.

All volunteers with Special Olympics have the opportunity to complete the coaching certification program.

The SPCA is looking for volunteers to provide bed, breakfast and evening meal for dogs and cats. If you could provide a temporary foster home for someone's future pet the SPCA will privde all food, litter and medications.

The SPCA is also looking for volunteers to walk dogs that are in foster care.
