Powell River Therapeutic Riding Association is looking for volunteers to assist riders, groom and tack horses and/or to help with fundraising for the association. This is a wonderful and rewarding outdoor volunteer opportunity and will be well suited to a volunteer who enjoys walking, children and horses.

A small time commitment but a huge impact! Looking for Beaver and Cub Leaders

The 1st Powell River Scouting Group is looking for adults who will spend 1-1.5 h a week leading crafts and games and on occasion participate in some camping adventures; last year the scout groups slept over in Science World and went to Camp Nassichuck several times.  Beavers are 5-7 years of age and cubs are 8-10 years of age.  No training necessary.

This is an ideal volunteer opportunity for someone with a busy schedule and not able to commit to a long-term position. The 1st Powell River Scouting Group is inviting community members to share a talent or skill at a weekly meeting. They are open to every type of skill. Are you great at crafts? Carving? Weaving? Identifying birds? Origami?  Don’t be afraid to share your skill!

Various Support Positions with 1st Powell River Scouts

Do you have a few hours a month to attend a monthly meeting to take notes? Then consider becoming the secretary for the 1st PR Scouts.

Would you consider spending 5 hours a month doing treasurer work with the Scouts?  Finally, would you be interested in helping the 1st PR Scouts by applying for awards for volunteers?  If you are interested in completing any of these positions ( secretary, treasurer or Registrar/Awards person) contact Volunteer Powell River to find more information about them!

Various Positions with the ORCA BUS

The ORCA bus will begin visiting various locations in our community again in the fall, if you are interested in volunteering in any capacity please contact the volulunteer centre for further information.

The Community Resource Centre is also looking for a café & kitchen volunteer with food safe level one or someone willing to take the course and provide assistance in the kitchen with duties such as dishes etc.

The Stroke Recovery Club is looking for a retired gentleman to volunteer a few hours at a weekly meeting to assist with setting up tables and chairs and to provide assistance to clients with limited mobility.

 

St John Ambulance is looking for a volunteer Branch Executive Committee member. This person would provide support to the management; experience and knowledge or interest in promotions and fundraising would be an asset. Attendance at monthly meeting of two hours or less in the early evening will be required. This is another volunteer opportunity that will be an excellent resume builder and learning experience.

Evergreen Extended Care Residence is looking for a volunteer to assist with an established mahjong group at Evergreen ECU.  No experience is necessary, you will be taught the rules of the game.

Powell River Association for Community Living is looking for a volunteer Program Assistant to support client participation in social and skill building activities in various programs and in the community for 8-12 hours per month. Volunteers will be provided with an orientation by the program leader.

Therapeutic Riding is looking to expand their board of directors, the time commitment is not extensive in board work but it is a great opportunity to gain resume and team building skills while assisting in the work of an amazing community resource.

Special Olympics is still in need of a coaching assistant for their softball team. They practice once a week into July and accationally travel to the island to practice with a combined team in the Comox area. This is a fun filled and rewarding volunteer opportunity. 

Special Olympics teams for Swimming, Bowling and Curling are finished for this year but will be starting up again in September, please drop me an e-mail if you would like to be contacted about those clubs when they start up.

The Sea Fair Society is looking to fill a bingo assistant position. Duties include collecting money and bingo cards, volunteering in a non smoking, fun environment. The society offers reference letters for this and other volunteer positions.

Powell River Emergency Social Services is looking for volunteers. This society provides short term assistance to the Powell River area residents who find themselves in a situation where they are forced to leave their homes due to fire, flood, earthquakes or other emergencies. The assistance can include food, lodging, clothing, emotional support and more. Meetings are monthly excluding december and training will be provided. Reference letters will be provided detailing your volunteer experience.

The Sunshine Coast Lifetime Network is a society that provides social network development to people who are lonely, elderly, vulnerable or disabled. They are looking to fill a volunteer secretary position with the possibility of further involvement if the work of the society engages you.

PRACL is looking for a volunteers for their day program at Community Living Place. This is primarily a 1:1 support for a woman who likes to be involved in dancing, stretching, music and socializing with her peers. Tuesday and/or Friday 9:00 - 11.30am approx.

St John Ambulance is looking for volunteers who would serve as Directors on the Board. All executive positions (president, vice president, secretary and treasurer) are filled but new volunteers to round out the Board would be very welcome. This is a wonderful opportunity for volunteers to learn how Boards work before taking on executive responsibility.

The SPCA is looking for volunteers to provide bed, breakfast and evening meal for dogs and cats. If you could provide a temporary foster home for someone's future pet the SPCA will privde all food, litter and medications.

The SPCA is also looking for volunteers to walk dogs that are in foster care.
