**A volunteer with expertise in cabinetry is needed to design the conversion of a school bus. Success by Six's ORCA bus will take early childhood learning experiences to families throughout the community. The volunteer would meet with coordinators of early childhood learning activities to determine needs and then plan the carpentry work that will be needed.

Volunteers will also be needed to assist with carpentry work once the design is completed.

The SPCA is looking for volunteers to help at this years "Paws for a Cause" walk-a-thon event at Willingdon beach on September 14th, 11am - 4pm. Volunteers are needed to help with games, registration, booths and face painting. Bring your dog along and have some fun.

Therapeutic Riding is looking for volunteer Sidewalkers. Sidewalkers provide support for special needs children as they ride horses by walking alongside the horse indoors and out. Classes are held on Wednesday and Thursday in the early afternoon over a period of 10 weeks. Training sessions will be held early in September.

The Powell River Stroke Recovery Club is looking for volunteers to supervise 4 to 6 stroke survivors in the hydrotherapy pool from 10:00am to 11:00am Saturday mornings. Volunteers work in teams and orientation will be provided.

The Stroke Recovery Club is also looking for a retired Speech Therapist or someone with training in speech therapy who would supervise volunteers working with stroke survivors on improving speech.

St John Ambulance Brigade is looking for volunteers - either Patient Care Provider or Auxiliary Member. Weekly meetings at 7 pm Wednesday and attendance at public duties as required.

  • Patient Care Providers assist in providing First Aid coverage at local public events. Volunteers will receive Standard First Aid Course (16 hrs) and within the first 12 months will receive Medical First Responder (40 Hrs). Training costs covered or reimbursed after 3 month probationary period. Excellent opportunity for anyone interested in first aid.

St John Ambulance is looking for a volunteer to act as Treasurer for their branch executive. St John branch executives are not Boards but are the volunteers responsible for the operations of the local branch.

The treasurer writes up to 10 or 12 cheques each month and prepares financial statements for branch executive meetings. The executive meets once each month (except Dec, July and Aug). The current treasurer will be happy to train the new volunteer so experience is not required.

The SPCA is looking for volunteers to provide bed, breakfast and evening meal for dogs and cats. If you could provide a temporary foster home for someone's future pet the SPCA will privde all food, litter and medications.

The SPCA is also looking for volunteers to walk dogs that are in foster care.

The Special Olympics is looking for directors to train for their Board. Volunteers would attend board meetings, get to know organization and assist with the three annual events that are sponsored by Special Olympics.

Paddling for Life Society is looking for a Dragon Boat Steersperson. This opportunity is open to any male or female who is interested (does not have to be a breast cancer survivor). Requires excellent balance and a strong upper body. Training provided in the boat. Sessions are from 6pm to approximately 8pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

The BOND Program a prenatal nutrition program is looking for volunteers who will assist with a nutritious group lunch on Mondays from approximately 11am to 3pm. This program supports pregnant women and women with infants up to 6 months old in making healthy lifestyle choices. Responsibilities would include purchasing food, preparing lunches and snacks, child minding for toddlers.

VCH - Home and Community Care needs a volunteer (or two volunteers for the two different times) poolside attendant at the physiotherapy pool at the hospital. To provide support for a client should the client have difficulty in the pool. The client 'swims' from 10 to 10.30 on Wednesdays and from 3 to 3.30 on Thursdays. Orientation will be provided.
